S - Support Seeking support from a therapist is like bra shopping. 👙 It will be a different fit for every body. One size does not fit all. There are many ways of getting support, from family, friends, colleagues, help lines and face to face with a counsellor. Counselling and therapy still unfortunately has a bit of a stigma to it... ‘Wow! You must be Really Depressed if you need to see a Counsellor!’ We all have our down days. And some days are definitely worse than others. But I can tell you, writing down your feelings and thoughts, or talking to someone over the phone, Skype or in person really does help, when you find the right support for you. Not all Counsellors are the same, there are many different techniques used. We all specialise in different areas. I may not be the person for you, and that’s ok, there are other resources out there. To find a counsellor in Australia, please contact Pets and People or for overseas, Pet Bereavement Support Network (PBSN) You could also reach out to the following Facebook groups especially created to help support pet loss parents. Heavenly Pets and Pet Loss Grief and Terminal Illness Support Group. Feel free to private message me if you would like more information or to have a chat 💕
